Sustainable Design Facilitation
LEED® Consultation and Certification
The U.S. and Canadian Green Building Councils Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Certification Program has been a powerful force of transformation in the building market in North America, bringing Sustainable Building to the forefront of the many new projects. Aurora Sustainable Buildings Group staff has demonstrated leadership in the transition to a sustainable built environment by certifying one of the first dozen buildings in Canada under LEED®. Our staff have been further recognized as leaders in the sustainable building industry by being selected as one of 15 LEED® Faculty, teaching LEED® across the country for the Canada Green Building Council and has also recently adapted LEED® for Commercial Interiors, the second LEED® Green Building Rating System to be used in Canada.
Aurora Sustainable Buildings Group provides a comprehensive set of services to facilitate the development of LEED® certified buildings from facilitation of the integrated design process and consultation to the preparation of all required certification documentation, calculations and supporting material including Erosion Control Plans, Public Transportation Strategies, Storm Water Management and Treatment Plans, Water Use Reduction Strategies, Deconstruction and Construction Waste Management Plans, documentation of salvaged and local material use, demonstrating compliance with ASHRAE Indoor Environmental Quality requirements, research and selection of low emitting materials and the development of daylighting strategies.
Construction Material Management
Construction Materials consume an enormous amount of resources and energy while producing huge amounts of waste. The Aurora Sustainable Buildings Group offers construction material studies and assessments that reduce the impact of buildings on the natural environment while often offsetting project capital costs.
Deconstruction and Construction Waste Management Plans
Construction debris accounts for more than 30% of landfill material in North America. The sensitive management of demolition and construction material has the potential to reduce and in some cases almost eliminate solid waste production from demolition and construction projects. The Aurora Sustainable Buildings Group can develop comprehensive deconstruction and construction waste management plans to that can reduce landfill by as much as 97% while saving costs for disposal fees.
Green Building Product Specification and Assessment
A growing focus of sustainable building design is the selection of green building materials. The Aurora Sustainable Buildings Group provides a comprehensive set of building material assessments to maximize the benefits of a healthy indoor environment that include material research and assistance in the development of architectural specifications. We can also provide a range of lifecycle analysis from building material embodied energy studies to life cycle costing.
